Addressing the issue of gun control, singer-songwriter James Taylor told The Daily Caller that Americans “need to make some sacrifice[s] to our freedoms” in order to keep children safe.

WASHINGTON, July 22 (NicholasBallasy.com) – Reacting to the shooting that occurred inside a screening of “The Dark Knight Rises” in Colorado, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Congress will “certainly” have to “talk about” how somebody can access “that much firepower.”

“It’s really so hard to even understand the gravity of it and no words are adequate to console the families and the community affected. We have to learn a lot more about how such a thing could happen and how this person was motivated and as you know that’s been challenging since the event occurred but all we can say to the people who were affected is that our thoughts and prayers are with them,” Pelosi, who represents California’s 8th congressional district, said in a video interview on Saturday in Washington.

“My colleague, who represents that area in the Congress, also represented Columbine when he was in the state Senate in Colorado. You can just imagine how devastating that is to – for that area to have this more than one time so it is stunning. All you can do is pray and believe in the power of prayer.”

Pelosi was also asked if she thinks the federal government needs to get involved in gun control.

“I’ve always been an advocate for gun safety. What is possible – well, as I talk to people in the last period of time since this happened, they’re just saying ‘let’s just find out more about how this came to be, who this person was and how he came to have what he had to do that,’” Pelosi said. “But, I think certainly we will have to be talking about how somebody has access to that much firepower.”

The alleged shooter James Holmes reportedly killed 12 people and wounded 58 in a midnight screening of the film, “The Dark Knight Rises” at a theater in Aurora.

Wisconsin Republican Sen. Ron Johnson told The Daily Caller’s Nicholas Ballasy that President Barack Obama is “fundamentally wrong” to call for Congress to pay for the hiring of state and local public employees because “it’s not the federal government’s role.” Read more
